Congresswoman Betsy Markey today told kids at West High School about a White House luncheon her husband recently attended with First Lady Michelle Obama.
The custom at such auspicious ocassions is to take home the menus and place cards from the table.
But with a little urging from a Turkish Ambassador, her husband Jim Markey pocketed the silver eagle place card holder, too, thinking it a souvenir.
On the way out the door, he was stopped by a Secret Service agent who asked for the eagle back.
"Jim! You were shoplifting from the White House!" the congresswoman chided in jest when she heard about the incident.
Markey spoke to kids as part of First Lady Michelle Obama's women mentoring program that hit Denver today.
