This little-known Republican (maybe) runs, this one stays home

Crested Butte lawyer Luke Korkowski says he's exploring a bid for the U.S. Senate seat held now by Sen. Michael Bennet, though he hasn't yet formed a fundraising committee.

The 34-year-old father-of-two launched his Web site Tuesday evening, and said he wants to end the practice of the federal government gifting trillions to banking institutions, among other concerns with  national financial policies.

He'd face Weld County District Attorney Ken Buck and Aurora Councilman Ryan Frazier in a GOP primary before challenging the fundraising behemoth and freshman Bennet if successful.

"The economic situation is dire and will become more so. I have not heard solutions proposed that are sufficient," Korkowski said. "I feel a moral responsibility to get into the race."

Meanwhile, Castle Rock business owner and Republican Mark Van Wyk dipped his toe into the Senate primary pool when he filed paperwork with the Federal Elections Commission to raise cash.

But he said Monday he's no longer running in 2010.
