Palin's "hot," Obama "rocks"

I can't help but overhear many a male here at Regis University praising Sarah Palin, for, amongst other things, her "hotness." Likewise, since the DNC's close two weeks ago, I continue to be inundated with friends sporting "Obama in the House!" or "Obama's my boy" shirts.

It's quite a spectacle...because, you know, it's the "cool thing." But, in all seriousness, the "cool thing" for many students I've met has been, well, just that. The election is something cool. But how about something deeper?

Now, I don't mean to diss my fellow young citizens. I think it's great Palin's attractiveness and Obama's homeboy-quality have gotten the once "uninvolved, indifferent" 18-24 year olds to actually read a copy of The New York Times or watch a bit of CNN, Fox, and MSNBC (or rather, The Daily Show.)

And yet, I bet asking a few random college students about Obama or McCain's specific plans on healthcare or energy policy will yield the same indifference of the past. Who's "clueless" now?

I just hope this hype continues, so that maybe, my fellow peers will begin to really care about the issues, and not Palin's hotness.
