Part of the greening efforts for the Democratic National Convention include "promotion of bulk water, drinking water from the tap," according to Parry Burnap, who heads the local host committee's convention greening efforts.
"We are trying to put the single-use bottled water in the background," said Burnap, speaking Wednesday on a panel at an Urban Land Institute luncheon in Denver. "Nothing is banned from this convention, nothing is required. But we're hoping to promote Denver's own water. And we'll be providing re-usable water bottles to the media and the delegates in order to accommodate that."
An estimated 6,000 delegates and 15,000 media representatives - as part of a contingent of 50,000 people - are expected in Denver for the convention Aug. 25 to 28.
