Perils of the greenest show on earth

As Denver readies itself to host the 2008 Democratic National Convention for 50,000+ in August, organizers are continuing to encounter the perils of trying to stage a politically correct convention on this scale.

The Wall Street Journal writes "Much of the hand-wringing can be blamed on Denver's Democratic mayor, John Hickenlooper, who challenged his party and his city to "make this the greenest convention in the history of the planet.""

Apparently, the green challenge is easier said than done. Take the example of official merchandiser Bob DeMasse who is trying to create the official convention baseball cap. The cap is supposed to be made by union labor, of organic cotton, and in the USA. "We have a union cap or an organic cap," Mr. DeMasse says. "But we don't have a union-organic offering."

Along the same lines, in May, Denver Post reporter Doug Brown weighed in with an article describing the difficulty caterers were having with the eco-standards required to participate in DNC Host Committee parties.

Green for DNC

Don't tell the attendees the city is persecuting/prosecuting
a local female bee keeper, by insisting she remove her bee hives
from her back yard. After taking a class at the Denver Botanic Gardens,
Marygael decided to become a hobbyist beekeeper to possibly help with
the ongoing bee crisis in America.

It's not easy being GREEN in Denver!
