Tancredo named as McCain disser

Rep. Tom Tancredo's refusal to back presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain is drawing attention.

The Hill, a Capitol Hill newspaper, reported today that Tancredo, a Littleton Republican, is one of 14 congressional Republicans refusing to endorse McCain.

The Hill dubbed the group the new “Gang of 14,’’ a reference to the nickname chosen by 14 senators who united in 2005 to preserve the Senate’s right to approve judicial nominees. Democratic Sen. Ken Salazar of Colorado was one of those senators.

Tancredo ran for president in part to stop Sen. John McCain from winning the nomination, because of McCain's role in immigration legislation that would have eventually given legal status to illegal immigrants.
