Iowa superdelegate Richard Machacek said he is partial to the idea of taking part in a "pre-convention convention" so superdelegates can make their choices before the August Democratic National Convention. And once all that is over, he thinks the party should look at getting rid of the superdelegate system.
"I don't think it's very popular with the rank-and-file and I agree with them," said the farmer and DNC member who will be heading to his first national convention in August.
Machacek who grows corn and beans outside the town of Winthrop, population 722, remains one of the four uncommitted superdelegates in Iowa. He said he thinks having an early superdelegate convention is more appealing to uncommitted superdelegates - and to the public.
"I think it would be positive to have the nominee selected before the convention," Machacek said.
"I think they are both quality candidates," he said of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. "So I have not endorsed anyone yet."
He said the driving factor behind that decision will be, "I want to win the White House. That's it."
