Nebraska Democratic Party Chairman Steven Achelpohl thinks Barack Obama would fare better than Hillary Clinton as his party's presidential candidate. But that doesn't mean the Omaha trial attorney is ready to get off the fence and change his status as an undecided superdelegate, especially now that the race has been reenergized by Clinton wins in Texas and Ohio.
"I'd like to stand aside for a while longer and see how this plays out," Achelpohl said.
Achelpohl said he thinks either Clinton or Obama would make "wonderful presidents, but he said Clinton is hindered, in his view, by past Republican attacks on her and her husband.
Obama's message of hope and his willingness to cross partisan lines is playing better in Nebraska, Achelpohl said.
That includes Obama's stated willingness to sit down with the Cuban leadership and discuss the longstanding embargo that has cut the island off from free trade. Achelpohl said Nebraska would benefit from beef trade with Cuba.
